In this clip, we’re going to talk about drop
balls. Now, drop balls happen with the referee stops the game, takes the ball and has one
player, from each team come stand next to one another and he drops the ball. Now the
ball comes into play, as soon as it touches the ground and then the game resumes. Reasons
there could be a drop ball is, if the ball comes off of two players, at the exact same
time and goes out-of-bounds and there’s no distinct person, of who it went off of, an
official will usually call a drop ball because he’s unaware of who the ball went off of.
Also, if there are multiple fouls, in an incident, say there’s a fight or something like that,
a lot of times the play will start with a drop ball just because, both teams had a foul.
Another reason why there might be a drop ball is just because of outside interference. Another
ball could get on the soccer field or somebody’s dog could be running loose, across the soccer
field and the play will stop and usually a drop ball, if there is no absolute possession
of the ball, a drop ball will be awarded.
